Although the court has said that there is no need to link mobile numbers and bank accounts with the base, but this does not reduce the importance of the Aadhaar card.  The basis is still necessary for the purpose of filing income tax returns, applying for a personal account number (PAN) or availing any government scheme.

Your base is a unique 12-digit unique number issued by the Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI), which is taken after your biometric details like Iris scan and fingerprint.  It also contains your demographic information such as date of birth and address.
